Pain is an informational signal that cautions us about an impending health problem, an injury or something not right is going on in our body. That’s the time when we start taking painkillers or see a doctor. Pain disrupts our daily life routine and our welfare in many ways.
It had been recorded over many centuries by previous generations about pain and the treatments they had used. Some had even gone as far as relating it to evil, demonic magic and spells. They would go to see sorcerers, priests and magic practitioners for pain relief.
Types of pain: acute and chronic

According to The International Association for the Study of Pain, pain is sensory and emotional feeling that causes inconvenience and usually comes from a wound, tissue damage or any other bodily related harm.

It is vital to know the difference between two basic kinds of pain, acute and chronic as they vary greatly.

Acute pain, most of the time, is caused by a disease, tissue injury or inflammation. This kind of pain usually appears on abruptly, for example, after surgery or trauma and can be followed by emotional distress or anxiety. The reason behind acute pain is usually diagnosed and treated however in some cases; pain can develop into chronic pain.

Chronic pain is known to signal presence of a disease itself. It can aggravate further  due to psychological and environmental factors. Chronic pain stays on for extended period of time compared to acute pain and is hard to treat with common medical treatments. It can and repeatedly causes serious problems for individuals. Pain relief is an important element of treating chronic pains.
Pain relief can be complex or simple depending on the factors causing of the pain. For example a pain that results from nerve root irritation can usually be relieved with an epidural steroid injection followed by physical therapy. However at times pain doesn’t easily go away. So pain relief management requires wide variety of skills and techniques to relieve the pain. These techniques and skills are:

Acupuncture and other optional therapies;

Pain management procedures for pain relief involve identifying nerves of sensation that are generating the pain and isolating the exact root cause of the problem and applying individual treatment.
